29th Residential Summer Course in Epidemiology 2016

Welcome from the EEPE Course Director

We had a very successful 2015 course with around 100 participants
and more than 95% of participants evaluating the course as satisfactory or very satisfactory. We are now heading for the 2016 course. We will do some changes in the program based on the specific evaluations we received by participants and faculty, but the overall structure will be similar to that for 2015. On 2016 we will have, in addition, two Pre-course Modules the week 13 to 17 June one on “Introduction to Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology” (five days) and one on  “Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Epidemiology” (three days).

The EEPE is under the patronage of the International Epidemiological Association, the WHO, Centre for Environment and Health, and the Italian Association of Epidemiology, and run in collaboration with several European Universities.

The course, now in its twenty-ninth year, is intended for epidemiologists, public health practioners, statisticians and clinicians with an interest in epidemiology. The course offers in the first two weeks five general modules on epidemiological study design and statistical analysis of epidemiological data. In the third week seven special modules cover topics of current relevance for health and advanced methodological issues. The courses are taught in English by lecturers mostly from European universities and research institutes and are held in residential form in the “Stadium” centre on the hills close to Florence.

Participants have appreciated the opportunity of combining an intensive learning experience with the unique attraction for cultural and artistic enjoyment offered by Florence and Tuscany.

We gratefully acknowledge the support and collaboration over many years of the Health Authorities and the Regional Health Agency of the Tuscany Region.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2016 EEPE courses.

International Seminar on Livestock Production and Veterinary Technology 2016

Indonesian Center for Animal Research and Development under the Ministry of Agriculture Republic of Indonesia are pleased to announce an International Seminar on Livestock Production and Veterinary Technology. The theme of the seminar is Promoting Livestock and Veterinary Technology for Sustainable Rural Livestock Development.

The depletion of resources, emergence of new diseases and climate change are important factors that affect the sustainable development of rural livestock. Through the application of livestock and veterinary technologies, these factors can be reduced to enhance the sustainability of livestock production in the countryside.  Under this condition, livestock technologies that are produced should be based on optimizing the use of local resources, including plant and animal germplasm, utilization of agriculture waste, crop-livestock system as well as minimizing energy waste. Development of local breed of livestock and forages that adaptive to the climate change is also required. Veterinary technologies including development of new vaccine, medicine, rapid identification test etc., are the demand to face sustainability of rural livestock production. Studies on policy to support all of the innovation to be implemented in the field are also needed.  All of these issues will be discussed in this seminar.

The seminar provides you with an excellent opportunity to share your expertise and experiences and to identify challenges and explore with colleagues innovative solutions for the benefit of all conference delegates. The seminar will be held in Bali, one of the Paradise Island of Indonesia.

One Health Eco Health Congress 2016 – Melbourne, Australia

It’s with great pleasure that we welcome you to the first Congress to bring together the global One Health and EcoHealth communities for One Health EcoHealth 2016.

The Congress is a ‘meeting of the minds’ for researchers, policy makers and practitioners who are working towards more integrated approaches and effective responses to complex global health challenges.

You are warmly invited to participate in what will be a rich global forum for learning, networking and collaboration. You will be able to interact with colleagues from diverse backgrounds with a common interest in protecting and promoting public, animal and ecosystem health.

There are ongoing and urgent demands to understand the major global health risks that arise from how people, animals and ecosystems interact as part of ‘social-ecological systems,’ and the pathways that are being used and are proving to be useful for managing these risks.

Many of us are challenged by the pressing and growing need to work in more integrated ways across sectors, disciplines and scales – from local, provincial, national and regional to global scales.

The One Health and EcoHealth communities have emerged in recent times in response to these demands and challenges.

How One Health and EcoHealth are contributing to more effective responses to global health challenges will be presented along with the latest research on associated approaches and tools.

You will also have the opportunity to experience Melbourne and Australia. Selected recently as the most liveable city in the world, Melbourne is renowned as a global science and cultural capital. Melbourne and the surrounding area offer everyone something in which to delight.

We look forward to meeting you in December 2016.
